Harry Houdini - Cthulhu: Death May Die - Fear of the Unknown (KS)

His daring acts of escape should prove handy against the hordes of unnameable horrors, provided none of them know the lovecraftian "stomach punch" technique, it's Harry Houdini!

Noteworthy paints used: I almost feel like I'm becoming a shill for AP Occultist Cloak (creamy dark slate gray) because here I am using it again. But while my "recipe" for black outfits has started with Occultist Cloak, his clothing is meant to be more grayish.. so his clothes started with a 50/50 mix of that & Burnt Moss (dark black green). I've been typically using Scale Ledanis Gray (pale purple) as the frequent highlight for that combo, but I instead mixed it up here and tried PA Bone, which I think looked really nice! Beyond that, some PA Dark Warm Grey helped with his hair, some gentle highlights and blending.
Challenges: They gave him a fairly wrinkly/'old man' kind of face so it very much required a few passes before it looked right. A couple layers of Scale Resurrection flesh combined with brown wash and then some further shading still... definitely the most work required anywhere here. Beyond that, there seems to be a notch in his fingers on the outstretched hand.
Things I'm proud of: Hey it's cool to (hopefully) do justice to another real person! Using the different combo went perfectly well which means I'm continually getting better with my 'instincts' of sorts. I'm thrilled that my comic-book-y highlights keep working even on anachronistic stuff like this. I'm really enjoying it because I typically save those for later in the paint, so I can see the point when I go from "this mini looks nice" to "I'm really happy about this result".

Also I haven't won since starting the blog, so I'll put in a happy note that my Tzi-Tzi-Ya-Ku from early April won the month's Golden Turtleback contest! There's so many ridiculously good painters competing in that, so wins are particularly awesome.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy! =)
