I've played when an Arthur attack boost get's feinted, the boost card goes to the bottom of his deck. This way he "pays" for boosting by losing access to the card and losing card advantage immediately, but can get that card back later as he burns through his deck. It's not perfect, but I like it. If he plays Lady of the Lake and pulls Excalibur from his deck, Lady of the Lake gets shuffled back into his deck. This makes it more likely Arthur can get Excalibur twice in a game.

Simple and elegant variant, I love it! As you mentioned, this variant makes it more likely that you'll play Excalibur twice through Lady of the Lake.

I've been using Bryden's variant: the boost happens after the defender plays their card, but before the cards are revealed. For further Arthur improvement, one could combine these two variants.
