I would equate it to a PG-13 movie: lots of dark stuff implied, but nothing explicit to see.
Besides what dealing with the Cthulhu mythos implies, I wouldn't call this game "dark". As others have said, there is a bit o flavor text for each episodes, the investigation cards and the insanity cards, but none of it is graphic or explicit, IMHO. The most "disturbing" feature could be the monsters' illustrations and minis, if otherworldly aberrations aren't your cup of tea.
Other than that, the game at its core is a cooperative dungeon crawling experience with lots of dice-chucking and risk management mechanics, with a pretty pulp-y theme (as in "punch Elder Gods and their minions in their faces").
