I halfway agree with your Riku. I don't see the value of removing the surprise of the new tickets. Let them come up when they come up after the shuffle.

However, I think the new events SHOULD be shown to everyone as they are part of the ongoing *mechanics* of the game. I beliee the rules even say that the new events should be shown to all players when they are added.

I could not find this rule anywhere that states new events should be shown to all players. The frontier boxes and story deck tells to read specific cards from the story deck and explain new mechanics, but nothing about showing new events to players.
We played again yesterday for two games, and saw no reason to differ from before, and we kept the events and tickets secret. This was especially cool when the [o]Ghost Train[/o] showed up, and eventually the event [o]that curses all players within the specific area[/o] came up. Had we known about the event beforehand, I doubt many players would have even dared to build there. Left unseen, we were actually kind of eager to build there, even if [o]we could possibly foresee the drawback of possible curses - hoping the train would pass us when rolling the die.[/o]

I stand by my word, there is still yet to come a single event that would have needed to be read out loud beforehand. We still have three boxes to go through, but so far, all of the necessary mechanics have been explained by the story deck and the by added rulebook stickers.
For events that need to be retired at specific points of the game, we just leave them in, and if they turn up afterwards, we remove them on the spot and draw another.
