Maybe its a silly question, but where do you buy your paints?

Game stores.

If you're fortunate enough to have a Friendly Local Game/Paint Store nearby, this is a great answer. You can also just try searching for hobby/paint stores but that's pretty broad and you might not immediately find 'em that way. If you're not sure where these might be, a good place to start would be to search anywhere Warhammer is sold, as paint(s) are often part of the deal (and if they somehow don't, I'm sure someone there can tell you where to go)! Otherwise, whichever brand you're interested in will hopefully have either a) product/store locators to find one near you, or b) an online shop.

That said, the specific retailers (citadel, scale, army painter etc.) you'll likely find aren't particularly cheap to buy online at full price + shipping if they're not advertising deals. You might want to try getting on their mailing list for special deals. Alternately, if you're just wanting to dip your toes into this gently, the great news is that most Online Game Stores will have individual paints available for sale as well. Heck, if you buy board games from online stores often, you might want to throw in a paint or two that interests you if you're already at a free shipping threshold (or to hit it if you're close).

Me personally, I've done all three. My hobby store is my favorite but they don't have all brands. Some online stores have helped me get colors I couldn't find elsewhere1 And Army Painter's spray primer is the favorite of those I tried so I had to buy some straight from them at times.

Thank you! Very helpful for someone who has never painted b4 and intimidated by the whole process of painting.

Hey I'm happy to help. Believe me, there's nothing wrong with being intimidated by the process, and/or by seeing what veterans can accomplish with our tools at hand. The very first thing I painted was a Fire Vampire from CDMD's first core box, I poured out the red paint, and there was still a moment of "I don't know, is this right?" before I went for it X) Was it great? Absolutely not!~ But I'll tell you what, the pop of color as we played Season 1 Episode 1 was such a difference to me. Now it's a huge part of my board gaming. Speaking of intimidating, despite being very proud of my painting now, I still have a section dedicated to every entry of my painting Blogfor things I found challenging/intimidating (code for "this part was intimidating to paint/challenging to do/I messed up").

The best thing I can say is if you think the idea even sounds cool.. having your own games painted by your hand, having a pop of color on the board that wasn't otherwise there, and maybe even finding a good new hobby to take it on, give it a shot? As I'm noting here, the buy-in isn't bad at all, absolutely no one starts out great at it, but we get there over time 😃 I love talking about the hobby (hence this post!) and I'm around if you have more questions... geekmail, comment on a blog/image with questions - I'll get back to you and help if I can! The miniature painters guild here on bgg is also filled to the brim with awesome painters and cool people who will happily give tips and answer questions too.
