It is not uncommon that one or more investigators die in the final round which is fine if you have one final girl (or guy) left to take out the Elder One.
That's so true...it's happened to me nearly every time playing with two investigators, regardless of the Old One chosen. In Hastur's case, having a third investigator to take the brunt of those Yellow Signs in the finale would have really helped.
