There's a million strong combos here that can vaporize the Elder One when investigators are approaching max insanity.A Marksman (4) gets a free shot, at range 2, with 2 extra dice. On most maps, this means you can use one move to get in range of the Elder one in one action, and you get to unload three shots with at least 4 green dice in its face. If you add a offensive discovery item, or a useful investigator skill, or Arcane Mastery for truly obscene rolls, you're likely to take down one stage of the old one in your turn, could even do more than this on maps where the gates are close enough.
