Honest question: how do you feel about Brawling at level 4?

That's pretty strong too.

I will admit that winning with Toughness can be boring,

That's what I hate.

As to your house rule? I don't hate it

Good to know hehe.
Despite my variant maybe being not optimal from a mechanic pov, I think that it is better from a thematic pov: how could anyone leave a space with a swarm of enemies!? (Unless moving stealthy, of course.)

I see your points and I have at times felt like adding this or that house rule. I always decide against those because in the end I have found an easier fix: random draw the mix of investigators. There are so many that you are almost guaranteed to get one which did not "inspire" you the most and now you have to make it work somehow. And so when sometimes you get one your favourites, you enjoy the lucky find!

I'm already picking investigators at random most of the time hehe.
