Hi I am a new joiner to CDMD, I so far only has S1 retail and just read up the rules and excited to get it played.
Given the latest campaign is out…would anyone have any advice whether I should back it or what previous contents I should get..? From this thread it seems generally this season is not very well received.
I think I will eventually get something from this campaign as I like Godzilla. I won’t be getting the big one as it’s too much in size and costs to me I am new player not sure if I go that deep in. But having the small one certainly nice. I can see myself liking it in the CDMD world.
Much appreciated for any help!!

I think it is a misunderstanding to say that this season is not very well received. It all depends on the perspective. If, like many of us, you already own season 1-4 plus two stretch goal boxes, this season to some (including me) doesn't offer a lot of *new* stuff that feels exciting. The stuff that wasn't available before is Godzilla, campaign decks and new common skills, and only the common skills are really cool to me. But it also does have *ALL* the older stuff, including Unknown Monsters and Unknown Relics which were a very welcome addition and came in the last kickstarter.
So - if you only have season 1, there is currently no reason to think that Forbidden Reaches is worse than Fear of the Unknown. It has everything the older games had plus something extra. And if you back it now, you will get the stretch goal box for a much cheaper price than buying previous stretch goal boxes. Only issue is that Fear of the Unknown had Unknown Monster cards for your S1 core box, but you can also buy this in retail.
And of course, it will take 1,5-2 years until you can play the stuff you are backing now, so buying S2-S4 in retail might be the better path.
And finally, you can look at Buyer's guide - what can be mixed and matched to get an overview of everything that is available.
