Decided it's time for my first Legacy game. I've played several campaign games already, so I became curious what this format has to offer. So I've played the prologue two times this week. The first time at 2p with my girlfriend only, and everything went pretty smoothly then. The second time we invited two friends for a 4p-game, and - a bit to my surprise - we got our butts kicked by the game. I say surprised, because I had expected the game to be easier at 4p than at 2p, given that all characters, and thus all special abilities, are in play then. But I guess starting with less cards each is the big drawback here. It just proved very difficult for any one player to collect 5 cards of a kind, so we didn't manage to set up a single team. Swapping cards (sharing intel) is pretty cumbersome, so it pretty much came down to being lucky enough to draw the right cards, which didn't happen before things got out of control with the Soviets agents. Once someone finally had 5 cards in hand to set up a Team, the threat level had gone up to 3 and the supply of Soviet agents was running thin. There seems no be no way to prevent 3 agents coming to the board at the end of every single turn, so from then on every player had to spend his/her entire turn making sure to eliminate 3 agents (and usually moving once in the process), meaning there were never any actions left to do anything else anymore. This was a bit frustrating, because by that time it was already clear we wouldn't make it, but the game just kept dragging on, and well, eventually someone drew another escalation card and it was game over.
The good news is, our 2 friends had fun despite losing and they're most likely in for the long run. Question is, what's next now? Do we play the prologue again or do we move on to the first month? In campaign games the game always makes it very clear what you need to do, but here all we got was the debrief book saying that, well, we lost and the rules book saying that we can add an extra 2 event cards for our next game (which we can't, because we're already at 5 event cards and that's all there is). I suppose losing the prologue probably means that we're not quite ready for the real thing yet, so I'd be inclined to give it another try, but I do hope I'm not missing anything here.
Any advice or tips are very welcome. Thanks.
