I'd have expected people to see it as undersirable. Maybe to the extent that it put a brake on people doing things they knew would give any faction a significant edge or handicap?


Yes, it is actually fun. Every game starts with what amounts to a kind of auction for a wide variety of things. Sure you want the cool faction.. but you also really want that key starting location, and then again there's that other thing that would be nice. Having the factions be unbalanced actually makes this more fun.
