Beer & Bread
I got this game as a present for my birthday and it wouldn't be nice to keep it unplayed for too long :)
Game Description:
Founded on the fruitful lands of an erstwhile monastery, two villages have held up the dual tradition of brewing beer and baking bread. While sharing fields and resources, they still find pride in their friendly rivalry of besting each other’s produce.
Final thoughts:
I have to play this game a few more times as it is more difficult than expected. The ruleset is not difficult but if you want to do good you have to do some serious planning ahead from the first round.
My vote will probably change after some more plays but for now, I'm looking to playing it again but I'm not really impressed (yet).
p.s. I did play it 2 more times before I posted these thoughts.. The game is good and I like to play it and it will stay in my collection but it doesn't evoke any special feelings so I will keep the vote at 7.
VOTE: 7.0
Escape Tales: Low Memory
I got this game as a present for my birthday... 5 years ago... shameeeee.
Game Description:
Escape Tales: Low Memory is a story driven escape room in card game form, with immersive exploration, no time limits when solving puzzles, and a collection of tough choices that will captivate and draw you deeply into a riveting story of a cyberpunk future. Low Memory is the next title in the Escape Tales product line — a standalone story that can be played and enjoyed without previous ownership of or familiarity with Escape Tales: The Awakening. All you need for a full, satisfying, narrative, and challenging experience is already here!
Final thoughts:
It's an escape room in a box... and it does it's job well. The problems are interesting and some that we never saw before.
The original part of this game is that it's a 3 scenario/box that are all connected into one big story.
I would still choose an Unlock box over this series just because of the unexpected APP uses, but I do plan to play other games in the series if I get the chance.
p.s. after finishing the game I have to lower the VOTE from 7 to 5 because the last scenario was BAD. This system has some massive flaws:
- the clue/hints was translated via BING (or something) and 1/3 of them made no sense...
- inserting system where you see 10 lines but you don't know if it's letters, numbers, commas..
VOTE: 5.0
Mars Open: Tabletop Golf
I cannot resist games with a new quirky mechanism.. so when I got the chance to buy it at an Essen auction, I had to get it.
Game Description:
Colonizing is hard work! Relax with a rousing round of golf on the Mars back-nine! Can you land your specially-engineered golf ball between the rocky hazards on the wind-swept Martian plateau? Can you drive over treacherous terrain and sink your shot in fewer flicks than your opponents? You'll be surprised how much golf on Mars plays like the classic Earth game, and with dozens of hole arrangements there is no shortage of exciting new challenges. Suit up, grab your clubs, and flick for a crater-hole-in-one!
Final thoughts:
Flicking the "golf balls" around is fun. It's hard, but it's fun. It causes stress when you F**** up, but it's fun... you got the point.
We didn't play the full 9 course because not everybody enjoyed the game but most of us did and I will definitely keep the game for game nights with bigger groups.
VOTE: 7.0
Pandemic Legacy: Season 0
We had such a blast playing Season 1&2 that I cannot belive it took us 3 years to put this one on the table.
Game Description:
1962 — The Cold War continues as a new threat looms on the horizon, a deadly new Soviet bioweapon, something called "Project MEDUSA". You and your fellow medical graduates have been recruited by the CIA for the critical mission of investigating and preventing its development. Travel the world using carefully constructed aliases to move swiftly between Allied, Neutral, and Soviet cities. Your missions will require you to neutralize enemy agents, acquire specific targets, and set up other CIA agents on location to execute your operations without a hitch. As you complete objectives over the course of twelve months, each success or failure will bring you closer to the truth.
Final thoughts:
It's Pandemic with a twist...with a serious twist. We loved the first few plays and we will probably love it till the end. The Legacy aspect brings new life into an otherwise overplayed system (for us) that we wouldn't play ever again.
VOTE: 10.0
Scythe
I heard it was a good game but I just hadn't have the chance to play such monstrosities in the last years. Once my play habbits/group changed, I jumped on the chance to get this game and try it out.
Game Description:
It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.
Final thoughts:
This game looks much bigger&heavier that it actually is. The rulebook is long but not that hard to teach...and the gameplay is quite simple once you learn the rules.
I liked my first play a lot and I hope to get a chance to play it again soon.
Even though it's simpler than it looks, you still get a great epic feeling once you are done with it.
VOTE: 9.0
