The person with immunity came in 1st or 2nd.
What was the reasoning for removing that card since it only benefitted the person with Immunity?
Did you retire the Gulch after 2 more games? It should have been punched twice in that game.
The card only benefited the one person that received 28 points from it.
So what you are saying is NOT that the Robber ruined the game - but that your GROUP did not understand the rules and played it wrong.
Retiring the "I found the Gulch" event card early as an end of game bonus for last place was a BAD move since that card allowed a chance for everyone to go in the Gulch and collect not only the money that was taken by the robber during the game - but also the starting money that goes in the Gulch.
I am sorry you had a poor experience due to not understanding the rules - but the title of this thread is just plain wrong since it was POOR PLAYER CHOICES that ruined the game for you - not a game mechanic you did not understand.
Hopefully your group got past this and moved on with the rest of the game without the Robber in it. You never did say if your group punched the Gulch card twice in the game where the "I found the Gulch" event card came into play and then in the subsequent two following games.
After reading through this thread and my own personal experience with the Robber in 2 games I can confidently state the antithesis to the thread title.
The Robber does NOT Ruin this game.
