As others have said, we are able to get specific rates from, say, UK to countries in the EU. But there are a whole host of countries that don't fit within well defined regions or aren't regular shipping lanes. We get a rate sheet from our fulfillment partner with a list of charges. Everything that's not within one of these well defined areas ends up as "rest of world". Because Switzerland isn't in the EU, it's in the same category as Antigua, Nepal, or whatever. And we have to come up with a rate that covers an average of all of those. Important to note, this also must include VAT and other charges.
I'll be honest, I don't expect many folks in that category to order the game directly through the Kickstarter. But we offer it for folks who really want it and offer it in a way that means we're not losing money to get anyone their game. If money isn't an issue and you really want the game, you're welcome to go through the Kickstarter. But you can also look to find a local game store who will back as a retailer backer. (Generally, they are paying freight rates as opposed to courier rates, and they all get actual shipping charges.) Or if you know someone in an EU country the could find a more economical way to forward it to you, or even look for a freight forwarding service in the US.
Over the past few years, shipping has gotten more complex and more expensive. That's the new reality.
