You could do this, but the rules disallow it and also I can't see why you would? The games is as much about player elimination as winning the race. At least one player being eliminated is necessary to trigger the game end, and the more I play it the more I see one or two players left at the end.

The good news is that once a player has been eliminated the game will end soon, so unlike old school games like Risk or Monopoly eliminated players are not left twiddling their thumbs indefinitely.
