I came to the Risk family of games from a slightly different angle: As a kid I played games like Aggravation and Mille Bornes. When I got to high school I was introduced to Diplomacy then progressed to games like PanzerBlitz and eventually ended up playing many games of Rise and Decline of the Third Reich. This was all before I ever even saw Risk being played. That said, please forgive me if I saw the original Risk as a huge step backwards. I Honestly had no interest in ever playing it and avoided it whenever possible.

That said, Risk 2210 A.D. was the first version I wanted to play. I has so much more depth, more going on, and - very importantly to me at the time - a limited number of turns. After my first play I was hooked and immediately went out and bought my own copy.

Classic RISK is definitely a step back (I.e. simpler game). Classic is not my favorite. I'd much rather play any of the newer versions. You should definitely check out RISK: Europe (I'll get to that review eventually). That one is the most different RISK game that I've played. A lot more nuance than Classic.

The Star Wars RISKs also have significant rule differences that change the strategy from Classic.

Yes, I've been following (and enjoying) your reviews on the various versions of Risk. I'm curious to see what your recommendations will be at the end of it all. A post summing up the similarities and differences might be nice - or at least a post with comparative ranking and the recommended audience for each version.
