Thinking of some replacement for this as it is bad like very hard to see, so I'm thinking of using Paper clips?
I did replace the plastic clips with paper clips in my Scooby Doo version of the game (Betrayal at Mystery Mansion), as the included plastic clips covered up the numbers. The paper clips perfectly surround the number, making it obvious which number your character is currently at.
But in this version of Betrayal (2nd Edition), I found that the clips didn't cover up the numbers at all, and it wasn't hard to see. The clips were a bit loose, so I opted to put clear Scotch tape on the inside of the clips where they contacted the player boards. The tape on the inside of the clips both adds another layer of space so the clips sit tighter on the boards, and allows them to slide more easily across the player boards due to the slick surface of the tape. I didn't want to put tape directly on the cardboard player boards due to the possibility of damaging them, if the tape starts peeling and needs to be replaced in the future. I put tape on my clips about 13 years ago, and they are all still working fine. You can see various other ideas on fixing the clips in this thread:

Are you maybe asking about the clips in 3rd Edition, as a few forum posts over there mention how hard it is to see the clips on the new player boards. I don't own that edition yet, so can't personally verify. The 3rd Edition gamepage is located here:
