I beg to differ with this. I have played many miniatures game and IMHO Heroscape is the best of them in terms of gameplay as it is very simple rules yet provides immense strategy with a bit of luck and mitigating for luck. Newer miniature games either have too many rules, too much luck, or too little luck and the win is already determined just by army and set-up before the game starts with the same armies winning all the time to lead people to just min-max army builds. The Heroscape tournament scene has proved the opposite with usually the top players staying at the top even with different armies by all players every time, proving strategy trumps both luck and army choice.
I understand the visual appeal of the game getting people into it, but hardcore players will tell you it is the amazing gameplay that keeps them coming back.
