Does anyone have a picture of the card or the full text on it?The problem is that the rules say that MOST Omens are like items... but doesnt go into detail which are or arent accept to separate the 3 "Companions" later.
Unfortunately from what I remember the bite card does not say either as well... Thematically of course there's no way to drop a bite for someone to pick up, but since none of the other Omens specifically say "This Omen is treated like an Item" I can see how vague rules could be argued and the Bite isnt any different from say the Skull or the Spear.
In my group I'd probably house rule the Bite as not being dropable, but if someone had issues with that (especially if it had weight in a Haunt) I would offer the compromise of the "coin flip" rule on page 23.
The way things are worded now tho I would love an official ruling to clear things up.
