Excactly the same for me...2nd edition and this was our first and only haunt so far. However our alien stood no chance since we had an overpowered character with 8 sanity and 6 might or something like that.
I dont get the point with placing the spaceship at the haunt revealer...I think there should be more aliens and that the spaceship should be allowed to be placed secretly anywhere by the traitor and stay HIDDEN before first person has been abducted.
We were 5 players and traitor played with two aliens.
Me and the rest of the game group were greatly disappointed...there is no mystery and no real strategy what so ever. Sure if we had weak heroes it would had been more fun...(however I actually rolled dark dice first round on haunt and rolled 0 all my stats were moved to 1 above skull. So the game was basically a 4 player game in the haunt.)
What can I tell my friends to convince them to play this game again? Was this a bad haunt or are all haunts similar to this? We expected haunts to be more complicated and filled with mystery...
Replies are greatly appriciated!

Yeh... sounds like you ended up with a bad haunt/scenario. Its really a hit or miss thing since the game mechanics are so wide. I guess tho if you're friends enjoyed the first part of the game pre haunt, you should urge them to try a few more at least to see. How well the end game runs really depends on where the characters are at (both physically and stats wise) and even when you pull Haunt (some haunts a big house is fun but for some a big house ruins any chances and vise versa).
To give you an example without spoiling too much, we had a haunt where cannibals were trying to stop victims and heroes from escaping, but it was drawn so early in the game we literally all just walked out of the house! On the flip tho, we are playing one where there is a secret traitor that can secretly infect OTHER people too to be traitors... so much mistrust and accusations... everyone is trying to track and see who could have become traitor!
I would definitely say you should at least run a few more games before writing it off as I feel like we've had some of the best and worst group plays while playing this game =P.
