Just curious, how each of you celebrate Christmas? We usually have our get together on Christmas Eve at our house. Once my folks moved to Arizona in the 90s if fell on me to host. This year we have to do our get together on Christmas Eve Eve, since most of the family work as first responders so there is no such thing as the holidays off, just based on your days off.
We use to draw names for gifts but now we do a white elephant gift after dinner. It has been more fun especially when the gifts start to get stolen. One year it was nearly 2/3 booze gifts so I had to say the gifts need to be more creative. Must be the Irish/Italian heritage.
I have hosted both families (the wife’s and mine) but once I hit 32 guests, I said enough was enough. With some in the garage it was getting to be too much, especially when cooking prime rib and the timing…no wonder I keep losing my hair. With my own immediate family now we are at a comfortable 14. Seems like everyone gets to visit without having forgotten someone to say hi to.
Of course we start off dinner with an appreciation of what Christmas Day actually means to us all. Then we go around the table and each adult has to talk about one thing that occurred to them during this past year that was special. I am hoping no one talks about being able to walk about with no masks… 😜
