Not sure what you mean about the [o]photograph[/o]; that came into the campaign for one game and then got put into the Tomb at the end of that game with no additional rules around it. Maybe it does different things depending on which Haunt you have for that chapter? For other means of rerolling, the [o]Helm[/o] is nearly filled with crests, so that's about to be done too. Even so, I'm reluctant to use a reroll when the Haunt roll is at five dice because it's likely to be a waste, and among us we find Omens fast enough that we get to five pretty quickly. I think last game we went around the table three times before the Haunt started? In that time I encountered two Events and one Omen.

I'm not too broken-hearted about the heirloom thing, it's just starting to feel like I'm less of an active participant in the story than the others. I'm around for stuff happening, but since I never have items, I'm not actually helping them to do the things we need to do. Unless we want me to take some skill checks at max 4 against things that are now requiring 4, 5, or more for success.

Oh yeah, the [o]Helm[/o] was the thing that allowed for rerolls. Got that mixed up. I remember players in our group once or twice rerolling Haunt rolls because it "was too soon" but yeah, if the chances are bad, I probably wouldn't do that.
Not in every chapter the Haunt starts with a Haunt roll though, so those might be the chapters where you can explore more tiles/find stuff. Three times around the table sounds pretty reasonable with 5 players. Still, you're one unlucky explorer. Sorry. 🙂
I think there's at least one haunt that facilitates finding heirlooms in some way. Don't know if you already played that one (or even if it or similarly designed ones are mandatory).

Still, you should know that while heirlooming is fun, items in general (!) - not heirlooms specifically - are sometimes (!) - not always - crucial to victory. We heirloomed quite a few items in our campaign (currently on last chapter) and rarely families actually had the option of using their own heirlooms. Everyone still did their part in solving Haunts (or killing everyone), though.
