I haven't really read the forum on this, do most people just play the game rules as is or use a variant that nerfs it?

It's normally the way when games have unique powers for each player, some always end up better than others. Colt Express & Midgard spring to mind.

What's the game like if you leave them out?

Interesting. Is that public data? I can't find it. When you say "win rate" is that the rate that the winner had each of those powers? If so, it could be something of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I.e., people think it's overpowered so they take it more often, so it shows up more often as the winning power. I'd be interested to see what percentage of time each power wins when it's used.

Also, it's important to keep in mind that some of this is self-correcting. If everyone thinks it's powerful, the winning bidder should be bidding $6M of course. And once they have it, the other powers are meaningless to them, since they can only use one. That can have a snowball effect, where the other player(s) can get other cars and powers for cheaper.

In my opinion it doesn't make any difference if the winning bid is max, the card is still too powerful. More importantly, it really warps the game - experienced players are going to know to bet on the cars with Determined power, and it makes that area of the game rote and boring.

The other thing to remember about those game stats are that those figures are across all player counts and all boards. There is no doubt that Determined is better on some boards and always better at lower player counts, so to see a discrepancy this large just means that the card is even more out of balance in those situations.

The card needs errata.
